Testimonial
"You might have heard of Costa Rica as a good place to get affordable dental work and you might think..."But it is a third world country." Yes, some parts of the country are very "rural" but San Jose (Costa Rica) is a very modern up and coming city with a booming economy.
I was pleasantly surprised upon entering the Doctor Valverde's examining room. He has all of the latest technological equipment to diagnose and plan treatment. From instant digital X-rays to computer enhanced treatment planning tools. Of course along with all the usual dental tools we all know and love (drills etc.).
The Doctor's skill level? Absolutely superb. Hate needles, that first painful prick? I never felt even one needle because the doctor applies a topical anesthetic and then very skillfully and subtly injects the Novocaine. Not just once but many times over a few days. It was painless dentistry and I had two root canals and four posts installed on the first day, no walk in the park but it was painless.
OK, no pain, that's good but what about the finished product? Wow, I never looked better. I had congenital deformations, 30 years of tobacco/coffee stains, awful wear and tear from 40 years of grinding my teeth at night and a mixed bag of caps/fillings/crowns compliments of several members of the ADA (American Dental Association).
After the first day with Doctor Valverde I could finally smile (for the first time in 40 years) without worrying about how my bottom front teeth looked. In fact, after looking in the mirror, all I wanted to do was smile at everyone I met. My family loved what he had done and my girlfriend gave me a surprisingly passionate kiss when she saw me (actually more than that, but this testimonial is rated G).
OK, you will look good but what kind of Doctor is he? Does he communicate well? The Doctor's English is very good, communication was no problem. His disposition and that of his staff is very relaxed and calming. Really, the nicest group of dental professionals I have met in a while. The good doctor even picked me up from my hotel and dropped me off one day when I was having trouble with transportation and this was after I had already paid him for the work. When was the last time your dentist did that? Bottom line?...The Doc is a very down to earth human being who cares about people and his patients. Speaking of the bottom line...how much did this cost? I can tell you that the amount of money my USA dentist wanted would have forced me to sell my house or take out a second mortgage. A good ball park figure is my USA dentist costs at least 4 times what I paid in Costa Rica and he was going to do less and he never did give me a firm fixed price.
Yes, Doctor Valverde (Costa Rica) gave me a firm fixed price going in and there were no "incidental" extras tacked on at the end (EPA spit disposal fees or something as equally ridiculous).
I thought I had a good dentist in the states (and I have tried many). Now I regret all the time and money I blew on US ADA. In fact, I will be coming back to Costa Rica in a few months to have the Doctor perform a minor miracle on my upper jaw (not as bad as the lower but not great either).
Oh and while I am in Costa Rica there is sooooooo much fun stuff to do. Canopy tours, safaries, scuba diving, hot springs, spas, white water rafting, horseback riding, three or four interesting volcanoes (Arenal Volcano and hot springs is the best). If action packed activities are not your speed then relax on the beach, or go shopping (great prices on local merchanise and if you love shopping you will love San Jose), visit the cathedral in Cartego, visit the "rural" places and you will find the most beautiful and lush tropical paradise. And that is the short list of things to do. I discover new and fun things to do every time I come here."
